A Visual Synthesis workshop on making meaning visible — featuring Kim Gros

🗓 Thursday March 12th 6:30pm-8:30pm

[Can’t make this one?! Click here to join the waitlist!]

Visual Synthesis is a practice of active listening, sense-making, and illustration. It’s a method for turning complex conversations into something tangible.

In this pilot workshop, illustrator and product designer Erin Murphy will host a guided conversation with clinical herbalist and healer Kim Gros. Kim is trained in Traditional Western Herbalism, Ayurveda, and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and her practice focuses on women’s reproductive health and mental health.

Participants will be invited to draw along during the conversation using a set of low-pressure prompts. Think: diagrams, icons, maps, and simple storyboards. Everyone draws solo for themselves, and sharing is always optional. The workshop includes gentle warm-up exercises and periodic pauses to reflect on what’s emerging, so participants can practice turning what’s on their mind into a visual artifact.

After the session, Erin will create a polished Visual Synthesis artifact from the conversation (animated drawing + recording + transcript). Attendees will receive access to the final artifact, and will also be invited to share feedback as part of this pilot run.

What to expect:

💬A guided conversation with Kim Gros about different frameworks for understanding health and healing
🤔A short introduction to Visual Synthesis as a method: listening → selecting → structuring → drawing
📐Solo draw-along prompts designed for clarity over aesthetics (symbols, arrows, maps, sequences)
⏳Moments to pause and reflect: What stood out? What patterns are emerging? What deserves a visual?
🎭Optional sharing at the end if you’d like to show your sketch or talk through your thinking
☕️Herbal tea + a relaxed hangout at the end (and a chance to support Kim’s work)

You don’t need:

🙈Drawing skills
🌱Any knowledge of herbalism
⚒️ Special tools (paper + pen is perfect)
🙅🏼‍♀️To share your drawing (you can keep everything private)

What is Included:

🖼️ Pens and paper will be provided, but please feel free to bring your own materials.
🏞️Material with iconography and suggested techniques will also be provided.
👯 At the end of the session, Erin will create a polished Visual Synthesis artifact from the conversation (animation of the drawing process + recording + transcript)
