The Artist’s Way - Reading Group

from $250.00

✨✨Facilitated by guest teacher: Finn Miller assisted by Hillary O’Dell✨✨

It’s a new year, so you know what that means: Time to start reading The Artist’s Way again… But plot twist: this is the year you’ll actually finish it!

In this guided reading group of Julia Cameron’s classic book The Artist’s Way, we will confront the challenges of this often abandoned spiritual path to creative recovery together. We’ll embrace vulnerability, hold each other accountable, celebrate our victories, and ultimately learn to freely follow our artistic impulses and live a creative life without fear

This course is ideal for long-practicing artists looking to overcome blocks or revive a “stale” practice, but the group is for
anyone who has ever been curious about pursuing The Artist’s Way, whether you consider yourself an artist yet or not. I promise that by the end, you WILL!

On the first day we meet IRL, we will set ourselves up with the “basic tools” for artistic unblocking. Each successive week will consist of a chapter discussion followed by a generative, crafty activity designed to prompt those creative juices to flow in all kinds of unexpected ways. We are open to the class flowing in different directions depending on the interests of the group, including the potential for field trips, feedback sessions, and maybe even custom hand made merch!

A week before we meet in person, we will start an optional group chat for extra support and resource-sharing between sessions and continue two weeks after our sessions. We will also host monthly virtual co-working/accountability sessions, and you will be given 3 hours of
Open Studio time at Home Ec NYC to work on and make progress on your projects!

🗓️ IRL Sessions: Sundays 11:00am-1:00pm Jan 25th - April 19th (we will be off April 12th)

This book is designed to be worked through over the course of twelve weeks, so that’s the path we plan to follow. We recognize that life is busy and that you may need to miss a session or two. That’s why we’ve added extras like co-working, Open Studio time, and a group chat! You will also receive an email recap and light, low-stakes “homework” if you need to be absent.

Finn Miller

is an artist and educator based in Queens. Currently, she sustains her artistic practice working as an English professor at LaGuardia Community College.

Finn has taken the 12-step spiritual path to higher creativity twice now, so she knows that it works! The first time she completed it, she became a painter. The second time, she learned to sing. Both times, she became more confident, capable, and inspired by the world around her. What will she learn on the third go round? What will we discover together?

You can find samples of her work and writing at www.finnmiller.net, or reach out with any questions or curiosities via email at finleymiller98@gmail.com.
