Romanticize a hem, y’all.

I have been hinting at a big project I’ve taken on for MYSELF this fall. I am committed to not buying a single new clothing item. Instead, I went through all my winter clothes and pulled out a ton of stuff to alter and upcycle. Some of it is thrilling 😱, glamorous 🫦, and ingenious 🤯, and some of it is rather borrrrring, but the exciting part is that I get to get those pieces back on my body and style the shit out of them👕🎩. We’re romanticizing doing a hem, y’all!!!

Exhibit A:

My mom got this dress on super clearance from J.Crew but didn’t love the fit, so it became a welcome hand-me-down. The color isn’t something I’d typically go for and as a dress, it’s not really my style...

But as a top…. hey hey hey!

I popped into a few stores at the end of the summer for the first time in a LONG time, and I was honestly really disgusted 🤮 by the quality of the fabrics being used everywhere.

BUT THIS... This 100% cotton rib knit from J Crew was so dense, and the quality is fantastic, the weight is perfect! I hoped they made other colors so I could chop up a few more, but alas, nope. I’ll just treasure the one.

It’s reminiscent of a French fisherman’s shirt, and I am a suckkkkerr for a good stripe. I also recently saw former First Lady Michelle O wearing the same stripe as a sweater set. We’re just girls with good taste. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I used a double-needle topstitch (which we cover in T-shirt Crop Class) at the hem to mimic what was going on in the rest of the garment. Anyway, I have a stack I am working through and a LOT of before-and-afters that I’m taking. I’ll share it all on my Instagram, so make sure you are following and supporting me there darlings.
