No Press is Bad Press (Unless You're Ironing)🗞️

You've heard "press your seams" in every tutorial ever — but are you actually pressing, or just ……ironing? “Oh no they aren’t the same thing”. Sorry baby, no.

Ironing is the gliding motion ↔️ you're moving the back and forth and wiggle wiggle, wiggle, across the fabric to smooth out wrinkles. Great for: getting the wrinkles out of your fabric before cutting, refreshing a finished garment, or wrestling a linen shirt into submission on a Sunday.

Pressing is the lifting and placing motion ⬇️ you set the iron down, gravity+heat+ plus a little added pressure, lift it up, and move to the next spot. And so on and sew forth (pun intended) No so so slipping and sliding. Great for: setting seams after sewing, shaping darts, flattening seam allowances open.

Think of pressing as part of construction and ironing as cosmetic.

Pro move: Press every seam AS you sew if you want your shit looking profess - do not wait until the end. Also I keep my irons on the HOTTEST setting and use a pressing cloth when working with delicate or synthetic fabric or interfacing✨
